ROAD TESTAMENT: Team Polizei Enters Lemons!

Team Polizei is going to Lemons. To race.
TWO cars, if they let us, which sources say they will.
Here’s a teaser for what we’re doing.
More to follow.
MUCH more.

UPDATE: Team Polizei New Contact Page Now Live!

You asked for it. Liz demanded it, and here it is.

Team Polizei has grown, we’ve made a lot of new friends, and our incredible weekend @ MotoGP made it clear that it was time to seriously update the Team Polizei Contact List page.

So here it is. Almost four times longer than the old one, and its still not done, at least not until someone I forgot complains. Don’t worry, this list will grow much longer in the next few days.

To all our new friends and business partners, thanks for your amazing support. You know who you are and Polizei schwag is coming, along with some Shirley Temples (so you can retain designated driver status AND your SCCA & Grand Am licenses.)

So…want to reach Liz?  Rene?  Henri?  They and everyone else can be found here.

144P Finishes 12th at Verizon Festival of Speed

Our streak of glee continues unabated. Last night, I sat down with René Villeneuve, our jacket designer Kim Johnson and Rene’s daughters and discussed the experience of putting this team together and our hopes for today. I said to Rene, “I just want you guys to finish tomorrow. Anything else is gravy.” Pass the mashed potatoes, please, because Villeneuve and Richard delivered a 12th-place finish in the GT class (and 24th overall) under trying conditions in their first time out. We’re incredibly proud of their performance today — even TRG honcho Kevin Buckler was pleased with our showing. And for Team Polizei to accomplish this at Laguna Seca, which is one of my personal favorite places in the world and René’s home track? Absolute elation. In fact, in some ways, this whole thing is almost more unbelievable than when Alex and Maher pulled across the finish line in Santa Monica 2 1/2 years ago. The car is real. It exists. It has finished its first race. Over the next few days, we’ll have plenty more coverage to come from our massive archive of material, so keep checking back.

Challenger To 31:04 Goes Public

“This is designed to be the best software to defeat that 32:07 record that now stands.” Isn’t the record 31:04? In this video Mark Nicholson of EyePatch Films, introduces a software package that integrates essentially all the systems that were used in 144A, with some new additions, in an attempt to break the Roy/Maher NY-LA record by using a ’07 BMW Z4 M Coupe. We’re not sure it’s particularly wise to announce that you’re going to break the record lest you want to invite surveillance by numerous law enforcement agencies. We’re waiting for the record-breaking announcement and the data and the toll receipts and the witnesses, etc.. BTW, Alex doesn’t believe any of this is real.

David Maher Previews The Monticello Motor Club

The Monticello Motor Club near the Catskills is a members-only, high-entry fee club that offers it’s members 200 track days a year on a road course that Brian Redman had a hand in designing. The following is David’s trip to Monticello a couple of weeks ago.

Sunday, June 29.  I found myself being handed the keys to a 2007 (Grigio Silverstone over Bordeaux) Ferrari F 430 and the generous owner telling me, “Just drive it like you stole it!” The crazy part was the guy knew all about my driving exploits. So we topped her off with gas and headed up to the Wide World of Cars dealership in Spring Valley, NY. There we would meet up with a lot full of their clientele before rallying up to the Monticello Motor Club in the Catskills. Continue reading ‘David Maher Previews The Monticello Motor Club’

David Maher Laps Watkins Glen In His 993 Turbo

31:04 co-pilot, David Maher, takes us on a lap of Watkins Glen in his 993 Turbo. The car runs on a significantly stiffer and heavily re-inforced suspension set up along with Recaro race seats. Engine is stock but Maher feels it’s a bit down on power after 50K miles, most of them on the track. Tires are Michelin Pilot Sport Cups on BBS wheels. Note the telemetry, nice touch. What you can’t see, unfortunately, is his authentic Ricky Bobby race suit.

Team Polizei to Bring Order to Greenwich Concours d'Elegance – Saturday, June 7th!

Called forth to the Nutmeg State by an error of prescience and/or gross misjudgment, Team Polizei will be out in force at tomorrow’s Greenwich Concours d’Elegance. In conjunction with Alex’s selection as the marquee speaker at Saturday’s dinner, we’ll be displaying Polizei Interceptor 144B and the super-secret BMW-engineered Gepäck 144 (courtesy of Manhattan MotorCars) Come wish us a hearty "Guten Tag!" (And by all means, bring Löwensenf!) Plenty of rare and vintage iron from all eras of motoring will be showcased at the event, which promises to be a cracking good time. As proceeds benefit Americares, we encourage you to visit early and often.

David Maher's Italian Trinity Tour – Part 2 – Ferrari

After a dinner at the Ristorante Cavalino directly across from the Ferrari factory and good night sleep at the Planet Hotel (also across the street), our next stop on the agenda was the Ferrari tour which began at 10am. We arrived at the Ferrari factory where we were greeted by our guide, Kim and another hostess, Daniela. The greeting was more business-like than cordial and included the surrender of our camera equipment in exchange for our guest badges. We were escorted through the famous arch under Enzo‘s old office where we boarded the Ferrari Bus. It wasn’t an actual Ferrari, but it was painted red with a large prancing horse emblazoned in front and Its interior was decorated with carbon fiber accents and more prancing horses embroidered in the headrests.
