ROAD TESTAMENT: Canadian F1 Road Trip. (Graphic)

Graphic, controversial and not quite what anyone was expecting, here’s a little video of our road trip to Montreal for F1 last week. Jason Thorgalsen and Josh Vietze join JF and I for this episode of The Road Testament.

ROAD TESTAMENT: Does Mercedes STILL make Cars?

Yet another controversial Road Testament, and this time JF and I discuss what’s up with Mercedes…then (as in the then of the Gullwing & 6.9) vs. now (as in…everything they make now.) So…does Mercedes still make any Mercedes?

Anyone Else Notice The Shortage of Press Re: Gumball 3000 2010?

Anyone Else Notice The Shortage of Press Re: Gumball 3000 2010?  Ironically, I was really interested to see more coverage of the 2008 route through North Korea, which I was sorry to miss. Nothing since the 2004 route through Morocco sounded as crazy.

In any case, the 2010 Gumball goes global again, yet there’s barely any pre-coverage.

Jalopnik Calls ANOTHER Prius Hoax. Nice One.

Jalopnik is leading the way once again regarding another runaway Prius hoax. These just get in the way of Toyota resolving its real problems. As usual, the media blew it. Where are the talking heads who can see through these idiotic tales before the weeklong investigations?  I saw through these the instant I saw the “victims” explaining themselves.

"Life Value and the Paradoxes of Risk": A Brilliant Essay Everyone Should Read. And I Mean Everyone.

Everyone should read this. So brilliant…it speaks for itself….

An address by Charles S. Sanford, Jr.
Delivered at the Commencement Exercises of the University of Georgia
Sanford Stadium, Athens, Georgia

Thank you, President Knapp, members of the faculty, administration, the class of 1989, its family and friends.

President Knapp has drawn attention to the fact that much of my life and career have been involved with taking risks. It’s the sort of introduction which usually arches a few eyebrows. A person who takes risks for a living calls up the image of a riverboat gambler, someone who lives on the edge — in the chips today, down on his luck tomorrow.

From an early age, we are all conditioned by our families, our schools, and virtually every other shaping force in our society to avoid risk. To take risks is inadvisable; to play it safe is the counsel we are accustomed both to receiving and to passing on. In the conventional wisdom, risk is asymmetrical: it has only one side, the bad side. In my experience — and all I presume to offer you today is observations drawn on my own experience, which is hardly the wisdom of the ages — in my experience, this conventional view of risk is shortsighted and often simply mistaken.

Requiem For The IROC B4C RS: Farewell to GM's Legendary Police Interceptors…

Every driver's worst nightmare.

Are cool GM police interceptors gone forever?

It is a sad day in the automotive world as GM files for bankruptcy, but while everyone worries about its stock price, restructured debt obligations and fire-sale prices for its subsidiaries, we at Polizei HQ are sad for another reason, because GM’s passing marks the end of the era of cool police interceptors. Sigh.

Today, Team Polizei salutes the two finest police vehicles GM ever produced; the 1992 F-body CHP IROC B4C RS interceptor, and the 1996 LT1 Caprice 9C1 police cruiser…

US Top Gear Cancelled?

My gut says it’s totally cancelled. I’ll say it again. NBC’s US version of Top Gear will not air in 2009. Or ever.

That’s just my opinion, of course, but if one studies the timeline I assembled last May one mo’ time, throws in some new information I just acquired from two inside sources, considers the catastrophe that is Top Gear Australia, includes the fact that Top Gear USA isn’t listed on NBC’s upcoming lineup, and adds something as big as…er…the socio-econo-cultural state of the union, well…decide for yourself.

VIDEO: Garage 419 Invitational – The High-Budget Remake Blockbuster, Part 1

Matt Farah's Aston Martin Vanquish Gets Towed After He Breaks It Doing Donuts...

Expanding and extrapolating upon our low-budget Polizeisploitation flick, the minds at Garage 419 offer up their own expanded multicamera version of events, including characters like Farnbacher Loles‘ Roger Garbow, Jalopnik‘s Ray Wert and Derek D. of Fast Lane Daily. Of course, by singling them out, we’re failing to mention a whole host of other people who lost. In all seriousness, it’s the most well-produced thing the 419 crew has put together so far. Roy makes reference to medieval warfare and lovemaking. Johnson regrettably reprises his “Iron Fist of Victory” schtick. Not shown, however, is the Aston Vanquish with the kaput power steering — a result of host Matt Farah’s early-morning donut antics. We did, however, get a picture of it being loaded onto the flatbed. Remember, schadenfreude wasn’t invented by Team Polizei.

Facebook Resurrects Alex Roy's Profile!

Looks like my Facebook profile is back up, 28 hours after the as-yet unexplained decision was made to pull it. Whatever the reason, I owe big thanks to New York Motor Club member Andre Betz and Fast Lane Daily/Garage 419 honcho Emil Rensing, who moved heaven and earth to gather support for its reinstatement. To wit…the rapidly-formed "Bring Alex Roy Back To Facebook" Group, which had people joining up even after my profile went back up. Thanks for that one, Andre…
