Alex Roy Reviews Top Secret Audi R8 "Blackbird"

Shot just days before this Audi R8 – appropriately code-named "Blackbird" – was shipped to the start of this year’s Bullrun, Alex Roy interviewed the car’s anonymous owner on what even he admits may be the most technologically advanced rally car on the road.

Can you say, "liquid-cooled, infra-sonic, pulse generator?"

  • I’m completely stunned, because this is just so incredible.

Did the driver made all these changes by himself, looks very well made …

It is just THE car. Are the radar and laser guns also installed with nice buttons? This guy must have been a very experienced rally veteran. The only thing that might be missing is an extra/larger gas tank, but the Fuel Consumption of the R8 is already very good, even at high speeds.

    and what’s the “liquid-cooled, infra-sonic, pulse generator?”

  • From what I learned from talking to the owner/ hardcore driver of the car at the start of the Bullrun, the mods were done by AI Design in New York. This is the first time he has done a road rally.

From what I know, an infra-sonic generator released sound waves that we can’t really hear. However, these soundwaves trigger a part of the brain that makes us feel uneasy, scared, and gives us a false sense of security.

I have to say, I love this car! If anyone is familiar with the Bullrun, this car was the electronic countermeasures car for Team Angry!

  • Holy. Hell. That be awesome. YARRRR!

  • Holy cow. I am in awe.

If Darth Vader drove, this would be his car.

Also, it reminded me of that Ferrari with the huge antennae that Alex told us about on his first Gumball. This guy means business.

  • OMG… the sound of that V8 alone is enough to die for, but the tech installed (and how integrated it is in the car) is simply amazing.

  • Wow. That is impressive! Best of luck to those folks.

They should do something about the SD cards for the cams, if you misplace a little card you misplace an hour of footage.

    As for the “liquid-cooled, infra-sonic, pulse generator”…

    I’m guessing it’s “The Rumbler”

  • The rumbler uses low frequency soundwaves but still audible. Infrasonic waves are way lower than the sounds made by a subwoofer.

  • The only thing missing is a red light running across under the leading edge of the hood scoop.

  • That is correct, the infrasonic waves can pass through walls or possibly bunkers making the intended targets feel ill. It is high tech military stuff, I’m shocked how a private citizen got this technology, let alone mounted it in his car. I would not want to be driving in front of this guy in any rally. http://blog.wired.com/defense/2008/04/wheres-my-acous.html

  • I have been waiting since the end of the bullrun for more info on this car thanks Alex.

  • This guy has a lot of military experience. That is where he got the tech from. He was not an experienced rally driver, but the car is very well prepared. Met him and saw the car very briefly, but he showed me the interior and some of the tech stuff. Sweet ride, and if it wasn’t an R8 it would be about as covert as you can get!

  • BTW, forgot to say thanks to Alex for telling us a little more about it! Alex is always up on his stuff!

  • That was so very very very very awsome. A serious contender to Team Polizei, but I think that both partys don’t view it in that way…

  • Impressive car!
He should connect the cameras to a notebook and record like that instead of using SD Cards.

  • Come on, stop wetting your pants guys, until the owner
demonstrates that he is actually using his car for
something else than showing off, he’s just a rich man
giving interviews for something he paid for.
What has he done ? What are his credentials ?
And BTW superman, you don’t need to hide your face,
    you’ve done nothing yet.

  • and what have you done exactly?

  • Yikes. Why not just have a couple thugs pull-over and waterboard anyone who gets in front of your car?

“If you stand in the beam for more than 10 or 12 seconds, you get sick. People turn as green as grass, and you can pulse it in such a way that their ears don’t really recover—so they keep getting this uncomfortable effect and they can’t brace themselves to get away from it,”

  • I heard that the noise thing doesn’t really make you sick. It just hurts your ears so much that you can’t really move or think clearly. The manufacturer was making up the “it makes you sick thing” in order to sell the devices to police and the army.
