New 32:07 Video: "Test Drive of the Mighty Polizei"

Cory Welles and Adam Bedient – Team Polizei’s friends over at the 32 Hours 7 Minutes Production Blog – have just released a fascinating new video of a conversation I nearly forgot ever took placeway back during our research into the 1983 U.S. Express record. Check out their post and video for yourself

Thanks for the post, guys!

The iPhoneaMometer. I Mean iMeter. I Mean Dynolicious.

What’s Dynolicious? Thank Gary Grant @ The Garage Blog for letting us know.

The 3G iPhone’s CeoC just jumped to 1.0. A full 1.0. Even though my primary phone is a Blackberry, I love my two old-school iPhones. Don’t ask me why I have two. Just know that I love them. Yes, the keyboards suck while driving, and yes, they lack copy and paste, search and GPS, but I love them because they’re…oh, whatever. I’m just a Mac guy, and even though mine can’t run Dynolicious the way the 3G iPhones can, well, now I’ve got a reason to upgrade to the 3G hardware.

Dynolicious is any serious driver’s dream – a G-meter/performance measurement app that uses the 3G iPhone’s accelerometer to supply you your (and your car’s) performance data…the same data previously only available through various aftermarket single-purpose devices cost $99-500. According to the developer, the app will be downloadable via the Apple’s App Store in July, which means it should already be there…even though it isn’t. Whether you should buy a 3G iPhone just to use this…that’s up to you…

Thanks, Gary.

Schumacher Involved In Wreck On The 'Ring

…But it’s not clear whether or not he was driving or a passenger when the F430 test-mule/prototype went off the Nurburgring track and into a guardrail at 155mph on the Schwedenkreuz corner. Schumacher reportedly called his publicist to say "We have crashed the car but are going to continue with another one," leaving out the identity of the driver. Some reports said Schumacher’s son Mick was in the passenger seat while Schumacher was at the wheel and others say that a driver named Raffaele De Simon wrecked it with Schumi riding shotgun.

That New Car Smell

Some people say they love that new car smell without realizing they’re inhaing a toxic brew of plastics bleeding off their petrochemical ingredients, chemicals used to treat leather and other fine elements such as lead, copper and mercury to produce what’s known as a volatile organic compound. A group called the Ecology Center has released a Healthy Car Report which measured the amounts toxins with portable x-ray flourescence device. Their report can be found on their website. Nissan’s Versa scored poorly while Smart’s Pure and Acura’s RDX scored well. A tip for new car owners:  leave your windows open as often as possible.

If The Cop Only Knew Who He Was Letting Off

U.S. Express driver, Mack Howard, got this warning during his run in ’82. Cannonball and U.S. Express drivers considered Ohio one of the toughest states to speed through. He would go on to get two real tickets within three hours of receiving it. Check out his sweet RX-7 with the giant air dam.

More Money Than Skills

Do you feel for the car or feel for the guy who wrecked it? Self-proclaimed Prince Marcus Eberhard Edward of Anhalt (some dispute whether or not he can claim that title) and pornographer to "the simple people," wrecked his rare Gemballa Mirage GT at Circuit Paul Ricard recently. It’s not known whether or not the "thumbs down" sign rates his driving skills or his Q rating amongst people who know of him.

California Teen Using GPS To Fight Speeding Ticket

Eighteen year-old Shaun Malone got pinched for 62 mph in a 45 mph zone last summer but decided to fight the case because data from the GPS tracking device his parents installed in his car showed that he was actually going 45 mph at the time. He lost the case, a trial-by-affidavit, when a GPS expert claimed the data could not have been accurate. His parents then decided to appeal. During the appeal, the GPS expert was called to testify and essentially backtracked on his earlier testimony by saying the Malone’s GPS data was in fact accurate to within a couple of meters and 1 mph.

The final ruling is expected in October and if Malone wins it could set a precedent for GPS as reliable evidence in speeding cases.
